Teams that need a starter at QB
We currently have a handful of teams that are likely evaluating their immediate future at the QB position. The first team that currently seems to have the most question marks are the Pittsburgh Steelers.
After Ben Roethlisberger retired, the QB room was somewhat empty. Mason Rudolph seemed to be the next in line, but the organization decided to take the only first-round QB in the 2022 NFL Draft, Kenny Pickett. They also signed free agent Mitch Trubisky to a lucrative offseason deal. It is now a three-man race for the starting role in Pittsburgh.
Similarly, following the Russell Wilson trade, the Seattle Seahawks are unlikely to feel comfortable rolling into their future with Geno Smith and Drew Lock as the main pieces. After weeks of rumors surrounding a possible Baker Mayfield trade, the situation in Seattle remains cloudy.
Elsewhere in the NFC, both the San Francisco 49ers and Carolina Panthers are intriguing. After openly discussing their interest in trading Jimmy Garoppolo, he remains on the 49ers’ roster as of right now. There have even been murmurs that he will once again be the QB in San Francisco if Trey Lance doesn’t get a stranglehold on the position.
Additionally, after drafting Matt Corral in the third round, the Panthers have not committed to Sam Darnold as their starter this season. There is going to be an open competition in training camp to see who will be the starter in 2022.
