NFL Primetime Games: Thursday Night Football Schedule 2023
- Start Time: 8:15 p.m. ET
- Live Stream: Amazon Prime
The NFL first introduced the modern Thursday Night Football on Nov. 23, 2006. Prior to then, the only Thursday games were the two games hosted by the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions every Thanksgiving.
That lasted for six years until the NFL decided to expand TNF to encompass the entire season. Since 2012, Thursday Night Football has technically run from Week 2 until the second-to-last week of the season. That was Week 16 until the league expanded to 17 games in 2021. In 2023, we have TNF games from Weeks 2 through 17.

The “technically” part of the explanation is because the first game of the season that typically sees the defending Super Bowl champion host is not considered an official Thursday Night Football game, despite taking place on Thursday night.

Sunday Night Football Schedule 2023
- Start time: 8:20 p.m. ET
- TV channel: NBC
- Live stream: Peacock
Way back in 1990, the NFL used to broadcast Sunday Night Football on TNT. That lasted until 1997, when ESPN took over. They held the rights for eight years, but since 2006, NBC has hosted Sunday Night Football.
Interestingly (and perhaps confusingly), Sunday Night Football the program airs more than 18 games. While the NFL has done away with calling its non-Sunday games “Sunday Night Football,” technically, the TV show is Sunday Night Football, and the day on which the games air doesn’t actually matter.
Sunday Night Football will broadcast 18 Sunday night games this season. Falling under the umbrella of SNF is also the aforementioned season opener on Thursday night, as well as the Thanksgiving night game.

Monday Night Football Schedule 2023
- Start time: 8:15 p.m. ET
- TV channel: ESPN
- Live stream: ESPN+
Monday Night Football resided with ABC from 1970 all the way until 2005. Surprisingly, broadcasting NFL games actually cost ABC millions of dollars. So, in 2006, the rights shifted over to ESPN, where it has remained ever since.
Beginning in 2021, ESPN began simulcasting a select number of Monday night games on ESPN2. The “Manningcast” features Peyton and Eli Manning talking candidly about the game, as well as featuring 3-4 guests each night, as an alternate way of watching the game.
