However, our 2022 NFL head coach tracker will still gather all the latest news and rumors from around the league.

Latest Jaguars head coach rumors
January 7, 2022: The Jaguars will be interviewing Bill O’Brien once Alabama wraps up their game in the National Championship vs. Georgia. PFN had previously reported that the Jaguars were interested in O’Brien.
Early Friday afternoon, Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport reported that Kellen Moore and Todd Bowles will interview with the Jaguars on Friday, January 7.
January 4, 2022: After reports from Tony Pauline that the Jaguars were interested in bringing in a veteran head coach, the team confirmed that they would be interviewing former Lions HC Jim Caldwell.
January 2, 2022: Kellen Moore and Todd Bowles are expected to interview virtually for the Jaguars head coaching role next week.
December 30, 2021: On the December 30 episode of PFN Weekly, PFN NFL Insider Tony Pauline reported that the Jaguars are likely looking for a veteran head coach along the lines of Doug Pederson or Jim Caldwell. He also added that the Jaguars are considering Vic Fangio as DC if the Broncos fire him, and they would pair their head coach with him.
Additionally, Pauline reported that GM Trent Baalke is expected to stay with the team and be part of the Jaguars’ head coach search.
December 29, 2021: According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Cowboys’ DC Dan Quinn will not interview with the Jaguars for their HC job during the two-week window in which HC interviews are allowed.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero later clarified that Quinn wants to get through the regular season before doing any interviews, which is how the hiring cycle has worked in past years and will for most candidates this year.
December 29, 2021: According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Jaguars will have their first interview with Super Bowl-winning former Eagles head coach Doug Pederson.
December 28, 2021: ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting the Jaguars have requested permission to interview both Cowboys coordinators, DC Dan Quinn and OC Kellen Moore, for their head coaching job. Schefter is also reporting the Jags have requested to interview Tampa Bay Buccaneers coordinators Byron Leftwich and Todd Bowles.
December 26, 2021: CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reports that the Jaguars are planning to interview both Doug Pederson and Jim Caldwell for their head coaching vacancy.
La Canfora states, “Both Pederson and Caldwell have accomplished head coaching résumés and are both very interested in returning to the NFL this season. Both are heralded for their work with quarterbacks, of particular interest to Jacksonville with first-overall pick Trevor Lawrence struggling as a rookie, and they are able to be interviewed at any time, as they are not currently coaching in the NFL.”
The Las Vegas Raiders need to replace Jon Gruden
Jon Gruden resigned as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders on October 11 after a scandal involving previous emails he had sent. Currently, the Raiders have not confirmed their intention to interview anyone. The Raiders remain in the hunt for the playoffs under interim head coach Rich Bisaccia.
Which head coaches might be on the hot seat in 2022?
Currently, only two head coaches have been fired by NFL teams. However, with the end of the regular season approaching, more could soon follow. Let’s take a look at which other head coaches could on their way out.
Vic Fangio, Denver Broncos
On the December 30 PFN Weekly show, Pauline shed some light on the Fangio situation. If the Broncos make the playoffs, Fangio likely remains in Denver. However, if they do not, GM George Paton may be ready to move on. If he does, then Cowboys DC Dan Quinn could be in line for the job as he and Paton have experience working together from their time in Miami.
Matt Rhule, Carolina Panthers
According to Pauline, Matt Rhule looks set to be given one more year by the Panthers. However, he will be under huge pressure, and changes to his coaching staff could very well come this offseason.
David Culley, Houston Texans
One of the more surprising potential departures could be first-year head coach David Culley. Pauline reported that Culley could be replaced by Josh McDaniels. The Patriots OC has a history with both Jack Easterby and Nick Caserio from their time in New England.
The key for McDaniels could be his belief in the future of Mac Jones and the potential of Davis Mills. Those two rookies could determine whether he remains in New England or makes the jump to Houston.
Leading into Week 17, Ian Rapoport reported that Culley has impressed in recent weeks. As it stands, Rapoport’s understanding is that Culley will remain after a strong end to the season.
Matt Nagy, Chicago Bears
It was only a matter of weeks ago that reports surfaced that Nagy was set to be fired by the Bears. However, the franchise squashed those rumors at the time. The Bears have never fired a coach in-season in their history, but it does seem that Nagy might be on his way out of the door when the year ends.
Ahead of Week 17, Rapoport reported that while no decision has officially been made, multiple sources believe the Bears will be searching for a head coach for 2022. Additionally, Nagy and those close to him sound resigned to an unhappy ending to his time with the Bears.
Mike Zimmer, Minnesota Vikings
The thought coming into the season was that Mike Zimmer would need to have a good season to save his job. Unfortunately, it has been a less than stellar year for the Vikings. According to Rapoport’s Week 17 report, the decision has not yet been made on Zimmer. With the Vikings missing the playoffs, Zimmer’s tenure in Minnesota may be over.
